Kaira: Her story

My name is Kaira Jayde Valdez. (KJV) I was born in Orlando, Fl. I am 18 yrs old. I am Key West’s youngest musician and have held that position the past 5 yrs. I have been a professional musician here for 5 years. I began my career playing for Americas most beautiful sunset celebration at age 13. I then started playing at iconic restaurants and sports bars in town. I love to give back to my community, which I have played numerous benefits and fundraisers. I play instruments, which consist of Ukulele(main), guitar, violin, mallot percussion, snare drum, bass drum, piano, chimes along with lead vocals. I maintained a 3.8 GPA throughout High School. I was accepted into the school of my dreams. Berklee College of Music. I am passionate about my music and learning from others. We have a Songwriters event yearly that I will be taking part of in May, where I will release new music with other artists. I have also opened up for the Legendary Reggae Band, Third World on a 3 day festival. I also have played with many other musicians. I picked up 1st guitar at 6 Was in choir for 3 years. Played at Disney World 2017. Moved to KW in 2018. Started Bahama village music program in 2018 which I started teaching ukulele classes during the summer. I also participate in our annual Crooks 2nd line parade where i march with my community and play drums while we celebrate the lives that are no longer with us. We perform yearly for the Goombay festival we celebrate for the Bahamas. Started playing at Mallory Square 2018 Started first paid gig at Off the hook restaurant in 2019. I began KWHS Marching band percussion in 2020 and won superior in all county and districts. Did my first tour spring break 2022. I now play at over 25 venues throughout the Florida keys at 5-7 shows per week, which I continue to hold a 3.8 GPA. I also play for weddings, private events, functions, sunset cruises, the Taste of Key West, The VFW, SPCA and birthday parties. I also sing the National anthem for most sporting events on our island. I have donated weeks of my time for causes and benefits. I played ‘Dorothy’ from the Wizard of Oz, with the Keys Kids program in 8th grade. I also was a part of the reef relief forum. I was in track and weightlifting. I opened up for the Legendary Reggae band, Third World, in a 3 day Reggae festival. I also play for a Florida keys event, on a catamaran, called Rock the dock. I will be performing in our annual KW Songwriters festival in May 2024. I also sing on our local radio stations. I have been working on writing new music and producing beats on my ukulele. I am excited about excelling in my career. I love to entertain people from all over the world! I love to watch people dance, sing along, cry, and have a great time at my shows. I play all genres of music and most people say I’m an old soul. My ‘momager’ has been booking me throughout Florida and others states. She has been my biggest supporter, as she has booked my gigs, set up and broke down my equipment, negotiated my rates, rehearsals, and also helps me with my song choices. I also know how to read a crowd. I take song requests. I am loyal, honest, kind, hard working and strive for perfection. Thank you for hearing my story.
